Yang-Wahn Hew from Des Voeux Chambers spoke at the inaugural AALCO-HKRAC Sports Mediation Training Programme organized by Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC). The 3-day event sought to enhance dispute resolution skills in the sports sector, and attracted substantial interest from both the legal and sports communities.
As part of the Training Programme, both Dr Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for Justice and the Department of Justice, and Ms Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, underscored Hong Kong’s significant potential in advancing sports dispute arbitration and mediation and emphasised the importance of establishing a robust and efficient sports dispute resolution framework.
Yang-Wahn Hew then shared his insights and practical advice on sports mediation and sports legal issues in Asia as part of a Panel Discussion on “Sports Law and Salient Legal Issues”, alongside Mr Victor Dawes SC, Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, Mr Ronald Sum, Member of the Law Society of Hong Kong and Chairman of its Sports Law Committee, and Ms Grace Cheng from 39 Essex Chambers. The Panel Discussion was moderated by Mr Nick Chan, Director of AALCO-HKRAC.
