4 Dec 2024

DVC was delighted to host a seminar titled “Navigating the Nexus: Competition Law, Arbitration, and Global Trade Dynamics” at the DVC Conference Centre last month.

Moderated by Catrina Lam of Des Voeux Chambers, also the First Vice President of the LIDC – International League of Competition Law, the session commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Zoltán Barakonyi, President of LIDC.

The distinguished panel brought together Kassie Smith KC and Anneli Howard KC of Monckton Chambers, alongside Brent Snyder, Jindrich Kloub and Mike Casey, Partners at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. The discussion explored the key forces driving the rise in private competition actions in the UK, EU, and US, and considered how Hong Kong can establish its own private enforcement regime. The panel also addressed the legislative reforms required to position Hong Kong as a leading hub for international competition arbitrations.

The session concluded with thought-provoking closing remarks by Louise Wong, Special Counsel at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).

This seminar was well-attended by a full house of legal practitioners, in-house counsel, and judges from different jurisdictions, and provided a vibrant platform for exchanging insights into the intersection of competition law, arbitration, and global trade.

The recording of the seminar is available on DVC’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxq5bU_qdg4
