Martin joined Des Voeux Chambers in 2019. His main practice areas are civil and commercial disputes, property law, and arbitration.
Martin’s civil and commercial practice covers areas including general company law, shareholders’ disputes, conflict of laws, bankruptcy and winding up, contractual claims, and debt recovery. Martin has experience appearing in the Court of Appeal, Court of First Instance and District Court. Martin has represented banks, listed corporations, and high net-worth individuals.
In the area of property law, Martin has handled disputes in landlord and tenant, adverse possession, and New Territories land contexts. In addition, Martin co-authors “Halsbury Laws in Hong Kong: Conveyancing” (with Dr. Alwin Chan). He also contributes to the Chapter on “Landlord and Tenant” in “Bullen & Leake & Jacob’s Hong Kong Precedents of Pleadings” (with Teresa Wu).
In his arbitration practice, Martin has acted as Counsel in both administered and ad hoc arbitrations. His arbitration practice includes handling disputes with cross-border elements and non-domestic parties. In addition, Martin is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Martin is a graduate of the Diocesan Boys’ School. He attained First Class Honours in his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Hong Kong. Martin also completed his postgraduate degree in Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford with Distinction in all subjects.
